Course Duration:

60 hours of self-directed online learning to be completed prior to the two (2) full days on campus + 75 hours (10 days) of Work Placement (WP)

Study Mode:

Our blended delivery program provides flexibility for students who may be working or have busy lives. Students work from home for pre-course readings and when working on some assignments. Your 2 days on campus will include classroom learning with fellow students and practical simulation where you will apply your new knowledge and skills to practical tasks under the guidance of your educator. Simulation learning is a powerful way to learn in an environment that reflects workplace conditions.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer (CT)

Students may be able to reduce the length of their course through RPL gained through previous qualifications and/or experience. Students will need to submit a portfolio of evidence when applying for RPL which will be assessed according to School of Health Policy & Procedures. CT is available to students who have completed a specific unit of this course at another registered training organisation.

Course Details

Units are sequenced to ensure you are adequately prepared and safe when on WP and to maximise learning opportunities. You are responsible for arranging your work placement at your current place of employment, in a Residential Aged Care and/or Community Care setting. WP is designed to be undertaken in full time mode. WP hours are unpaid so you should plan for this accordingly.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or over,
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or have a permanent
    humanitarian visa or certain temporary visas with study rights,
  • Reside in South Australia,
  • Hold a Certificate lll in Individual support (ageing or disability) or relevant health
    qualification and be actively working in the sector,
  • Demonstrate achievement of an English Language Proficiency level from one of the
    following test pathways: IELTS, OET online, PTE Academic or TOEFL iBT (if applicable),
    and
  • Have successfully completed Year 10 or higher.

International Student Entry Requirements

* Please Note: Any information Open Colleges School of Health (the School) provides to prospective students regarding the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing qualification is subject to the School being approved by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) to deliver that course.

The minimum entry requirements for this course are as follows. You will need to:

 
  • • Be 18 years of age or over;
  • • Have successfully completed the overseas equivalent to an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (Year 12);
  • • Complete one of the following English language proficiency tests and meet the requirements for test results:
    • • IELTS (Academic module) test and achieved a result of 7.0 overall and 7.0 in each component from one test sitting; or a maximum of two (2) test sittings in a six month period only if you achieve a minimum overall score of 7.0 in each sitting and you achieve a minimum score of 7.0 in each component across the two sittings with no score in any component of the test being below 6.5
    • • OET Online test and achieved a result of B overall and B in each of the four components from one test sitting; or a maximum of two (2) test sittings in any six month period only if you are testing in all four components in each sitting and achieve a minimum score of B in each component across the two sittings and no score in any component of the test is below C
    • • TOEFL iBT test and achieved a result of 94 overall and 24 in listening, 24 in reading, 27 in writing and 23 in speaking from one test sitting; or a maximum of two (2) test sittings in any six month period only if a minimum total score of 94 is achieved in each sitting and you achieve a minimum score of 24 in listening, 24 in reading, 27 in writing and 23 in speaking across the two sittings and the score is not below 20 for listening, 19 for reading, 24 for writing and 20 for speaking in either of the tests.
 
Our CHCSS00070 Assist Clients with Medication Skill Set is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
